    Family First

    Gatherings as a family was important to Lola. That came to include chosen family over time. Food, fellowship, story, gatherings like these were hallmarks of Lola’s life, such as her 80th Birthday Celebration in 2009.

    Collection & Curation

    The times she lived through didn’t allow her to be an artist. And though she didn’t have the opportunities to pursue her deep creative spirit in a formal way, she had an artist’s eye and sensibility. She appreciated beauty, and could see it in nature, and in simple and expensive things, whether at a garage sale or at a luxury department store. She curated her collections with care and found incredible joy in them. She could marvel at the luster of a pearl, or the curve of the arm of a figurine, the way a bowl pealed, the light through stained glass, the texture of a tightly woven carpet. And though she didn’t have the opportunity to pursue her creativity in a formalized way, she supported young artists when she traveled whenever she could.
